Khamdang Gewog

Khamdang Gewog is located in the eastern part of Bhutan, within the Trashiyangtse District. It is bordered by other gewogs such as Jamkhar, Lumang, and Toetsho. The gewog encompasses a diverse terrain, including verdant valleys, rolling hills, and towering mountain peaks, offering stunning vistas at every turn.

The population of Khamdang Gewog consists mainly of Bhutanese people, primarily belonging to the Tshangla and Khengpa ethnic groups.The region is famous for its annual mask dance festival,where locals showcase traditional dances and wear colorful costumes representing varoius deities and characters.

The economy of Khamdang Gewog, like many rural areas in Bhutan, is primarily based on agriculture, with some additional income generated from livestock farming and small-scale businesses.The gewog is very dry mainly due to less forest coverage. Since it is in a dry zone, the most dominant land use categories in the gewog are dry land and Pangshing followed by the wetland and some Tseri cultivation. The major crops grown are maize, wheat, buckwheat and potato. While rice are grown on the lower areas and terraced fields developed in the 1970s.

Accessible road networks connect the gewog to neighboring areas, facilitating transportation and trade. Basic amenities such as healthcare facilities, schools, and telecommunications are available to support the needs of the local population.The gewog is about 27 kms from the Dzongkhag center and all the villages are well connected by both B-mobile and Tashi cell network coverage along with the 2G and 3G network services.
