Tongmijangsa Gewog
Tongmijangsa Gewog is nestled amidst the serene landscapes, boasting of its tranquil environment. Situated in the eastern part of the country, the Gewog encompasses the birthplaces of revered religious figures such as Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche and Gyalsey Trulku, adding to its spiritual significance. It is strategically interconnected with major towns like Duksum, Trashi Yangtse, Trashigang, and Mongar via a well-developed highway network, facilitating seamless trade and commerce.
The diverse population of the Gewog predominantly comprises Sharchop-speaking inhabitants, with a significant presence of Choechang Nga Chang speakers. The community is deeply rooted in agricultural practices, cultivating various vegetables, cereals, maize, oranges, hazelnuts, chili, and other crops. Paddy cultivation, primarily for self-consumption with surplus for sale, remains a vital part of the local economy.
Despite challenges, Tongmijangsa Gewog boasts of modern facilities and amenities. The Gewog features a network of roads connecting its five chiwogs, facilitating easy access for residents and traders alike. However, the delay in black-topping roads, attributed to the Kholongchhu Project, has been a longstanding issue. Nevertheless, the existing road infrastructure connecting to neighboring areas is well-maintained, ensuring smooth transportation and trade activities.
One of the pressing challenges faced by the Gewog is the rising number of vacant houses, posing a significant impediment to its development efforts. This trend necessitates proactive measures from development practitioners to incentivize residents to stay and contribute to the community's growth. Moreover, during the summer season, heavy rainfall often leads to road blockages, hindering access to essential services and impeding socio-economic activities.
Nestled in an elevated area opposite Khamdang Gewog, Tongmijangsa Gewog enjoys favorable climate and picturesque surroundings. It is home to notable landmarks such as the Kunzangling Higher Secondary School and a total of four educational institutions. Covering an area of 84 sq.km, it beautifully sits at an elevation of 3650 meters above sea level, offering a breathtaking vista of the surrounding landscapes.
In fact, the Gewog stands as a testament to its rich cultural heritage, harmoniously blending tradition with modernity amidst its breathtaking natural beauty. With concerted efforts to address existing challenges and harness its potential, Tongmijangsa Gewog strives towards sustainable development and prosperity for its residents.
